Is Hypnosis The Answer to All Of Life’s Problems?

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of hypnosis? Is it a person swinging a pocket watch telling you that “you’re getting very sleepy?” (Also do we need someone to tell us this or can we just take some CBD?) Because we are diving into all things hypnosis with Certified Hypnotherapist, Andrea Fagenholz, we’re debunking everything you thought you knew about this valuable practice. She’s going to help us understand what it means to be hypnotized, how it can help you and more.

Whether you’re a skeptic or have your Hypnotherapist on speed dial, you’re going to want to read this.

Let’s get the 411 on Hypnosis — what is it and how does it work?

There’s both a conscious and subconscious part of our brain. Often times we forget about or ignore the subconscious. Andrea tells us that with hypnosis we can “align conscious desires with subconscious patterns and beliefs.” As a result, it creates an opportunity for significant positive change and can help you achieve your goals. Hypnosis allows you to be in control or take your power back. With hypnosis, Andrea says that “everyone is capable of creating the life they deserve.” That’s some powerful stuff! But also, if we think we deserve to be with George Clooney, can hypnosis help us get there? Just saying…

Basically, hypnosis strengthens the communication between your conscious and subconscious mind. Doing so allows us to release limiting beliefs which in turn creates space for more potential. Sounds pretty great to us!

What are the benefits of Hypnosis?

If you fall somewhere between a skeptic and a seasoned Hypnosis client, you might have heard of people seeing a Hypnotherapist to quit smoking or even lose weight. Although these are some things that that Hypnosis can help with, there are countless other benefits you might not be aware of. For example, hypnotherapy can encourage

Decreasing anxiety

Boost confidence

Career shift and / or success

Clarity

Mindful pregnancy

Fertility

Habit adjustments

Restful sleep

Inner balance

Personal development

It’s like seeing a therapist but taking a different approach to help you be the best version of yourself.

We’re dying to know — what does a typical Hypnotherapy session look like?

Because we know you’re dying to know too! Andrea tells us her private sessions typically look like this…

“A good portion of the session is spent talking, specifically narrowing down what the client wants out of hypnosis. We use a forward focused approach. Rather than focusing on what we don’t want, we focus on the direction we are moving towards. We all want to feel safe, heard and loved. I provide space for that while acting as a guide to allow forward movement in a way that is comfortable for the client.

Generally, the last piece of the session is when the client is in a hypnotic trance. The client is laying down, comfortable – generally eyes closed and listening. No responsibilities, no to-dos, just being. This is the magical moment where I incorporate my tools and techniques with the clients expressed vision.”

Laying down? No responsibilities? Count us in.

Can everyone be hypnotized? Are there any limitations?

Andrea tells us that one of the most common misconceptions is that not everyone can be hypnotized. She says that a majority of the population is in fact hypnotizable. They just have to be talked to in the appropriate manner. So if you think that there’s no way hypnosis could work for you…think again.

In a hypnosis session, the client has complete control (you can open your eyes, move around, etc). Andrea shares that “most clients come out of their state of hypnosis saying that they wish it was longer.” This gentle yet impactful practice allows us to experience this rare time of complete relaxation and ease. With our lives being busier than ever, we don’t get that kind of time very often.

We often get stuck in our ways and think that it might be too late to change things. However, with hypnosis, the possibilities are endless. A good hypnotherapist like Andrea guides their clients towards feeling, seeing and being the best version of themselves. Certainly that best version is defined by the client. However, the hypnotherapist should know the right questions to ask to get a clear understanding of what the client wants out of their session(s).

The mind is more powerful than you think, and hypnotherapy is the perfect example of that.

If you’re interested in learning more about hypnotherapy, slide into Andrea’s DMs on Instagram (and tell her we say hello!) or check her out at Magnolia Wellness if you find yourself in Cali. Thankfully, Andrea does both in-person AND virtual sessions so for our Chicago friends, you can schedule an online session with her that is JUST AS EFFECTIVE. Pretty cool, right? And just when you thought things couldn’t get any better (hint: they do), she’ll be doing a workshop with Cindy from Revealing Soul on Friday, June 14 at The Space Between. Make sure you’re subscribed to our awesome emails so you’ll be the first to know about all the details.

It’s interesting to learn that most of a hypnosis session is spent talking about what the client wants. My wife is wanting to learn how to do hypnosis and she was wondering how to make sure her client is fulfilled with their appointment. I’ll be sure to tell her that she should talk to her client most of the time if she starts doing hypnosis.

  2. I like how you explained that a hypnotherapist can help people quit smoking, lose weight, decrease anxiety, boost confidence, etc. My brother has severe anxiety and is overweight. I’ll talk to him about going through hypnosis with a hypnotherapist so that he can try and overcome those two obstacles in his life. Thanks for teaching me about how hypnosis can help people physically and mentally.

  3. I had no idea that hypnotherapy could help with fertility and restful sleep. My sister has been wanting a baby ever since she got married but they’re having trouble getting pregnant. I’ll recommend that she look more into hypnotherapy.

  4. James Borst says:

It is interesting that the majority of people can by hypnotized if they are talked to appropriately. My wife’s mother has a lot of depression and it makes it so she doesn’t have an appetite, which has been causing other health issues. If I had depression issues, I’d consider trying hypnotherapy.

  5. Ellie Davis says:

I never knew that hypnosis can help you to deal with decreasing anxiety and boost confidence. My brother has been struggling with anxiety problems, and we are looking for advice to help him. I will let him know about the benefits of hypnosis to help him deal with those problems and boost his confidence.

  6. I loved this article very-written!
As a form of psychotherapy, hypnotherapy uses extreme concentration, intense attention, and relaxation to make a patient achieve a heightened state of consciousness. To put it simply, it places a patient into a trancelike state of awareness, concentration, and focus.

I loved how you described how a hypnotherapist may assist patients with a variety of goals, like quitting smoking, losing weight, reducing anxiety, boosting confidence, etc. My sibling is overweight and suffers from acute anxiety. I’ll discuss hypnosis with a hypnotherapist with him so that he may try to get over those two challenges in his life. Thank you for educating me on the emotional and physical benefits of hypnosis.

  9. How helpful to know that you have complete control during hypnosis. I have been having a lot of anxiety this last year and I want to do something about it. I will find a great anxiety hypnosis treatment in my area for this.

  10. I want to express my gratitude for sharing this valuable information about the potential of hypnosis. I’m genuinely excited to learn more about how this practice can empower individuals to lead more fulfilling lives. 😊🌟
