You can’t go to a store, talk to a friend or scroll through social media without the mention of CBD. With this multi-use product being used in everything from coffee to burgers (yes, you heard that right), it’s now widely available and in so many forms. Whether you’re already a daily CBD user or you’ve never tried it, next time you’re heading to your yoga mat…you might want to bring some CBD.
If you’re not familiar with CBD (Cannabidiol), it’s the non-psychoactive element extracted from the cannabis plant. So basically, THC’s older sister (who just wants to chill without getting high). Research has found so many benefits to CBD like calming anxiety, easing pain, reducing inflammation, boosting mood, promoting sleep and enhancing the mind-body connection. Hmm interesting. Do those benefits sound familiar? Oh yeah…they’re the same benefits you get from doing yoga! How about that?
If you enjoy how amazing you feel after a yoga class…imagine feeling that way but even better. Why not, right? Basically, the benefits you already receive in yoga can be enhanced by using CBD. Now we know there are so many forms of CBD out there and it all can be pretty overwhelming. There’s tinctures, topicals, edibles, vape, supplements, and even CBD skincare. Where to even begin? Don’t worry…we got you.
Here’s how you can incorporate CBD into your yoga practice to leave you feeling blissed out on and off the mat.
For an extra calming, restorative yoga practice…
Try a tincture 15-30 minutes before class or a calming body oil on your way in. Depending on when you want to feel the effects (at the beginning of class or a bit through), these are great options to enhance your restorative yoga practice.
If essential oils really get you in the mood, then go with a topical CBD form like the Apothecanna Calming Mind Body Oil. This is good option too if you’ve never used CBD before, as you won’t get as potent of a dose as of you were use a tincture or capsules.
But if you’re a CBD OG, and feel comfortable with dosing tinctures (which aren’t scary but we don’t recommend taking too much before a class as we don’t’ want you to fall asleep…at least not until Savasana) try the Robyn Balance Oil. Mineral is one of the most talked about CBD brands, as they should be. They do a great job of explaining where their CBD comes from, why it’s superior and the benefits of the other ingredients used in their tinctures.
If you prefer convenience and would rather pop a pill, we suggest the Be Calm capsules which not only have 15 mg of CBD in each capsule but adaptogens like Ashwagandha and Holy Basil Leaf to keep stress at bay.
For an especially energized flow class…
If you’re wanting a more invigorating feeling from your yoga practice, there’s a CBD product for that too. There are still tinctures, topicals and capsules that will get the job done, but there are some more uplifting formulas we recommend to leave you feeling electrified after that final “Namaste.”
Yuyo AM Formula is a great option (that’s actually tasty – something that isn’t always true with CBD oil) for a flow class, even if that class is in the PM. This formula also has Ashwagandha, which is one of the more common adaptogens (if you’re not familiar with adaptogens, they’re herbs that help reduce cortisol and relieve stress). So it’s nice added bonus to get adaptogens and CBD in one product (because who doesn’t like a two-for-one?)
Sometimes it’s nice to have a cup of herbal tea right before or after a yoga class. But how nice would it be to have a cup of CBD tea? Thanks to The Brothers Apothecary…you can. With flavors like Chai Awakening and Mellow Mint, there’s a CBD tea for all tastes (and even sensations).
Want a little snack before you hit the mat? Try a CBD edible like the Lord Jones Dark Chocolate Espresso Chews. Not only are they delicious, but each chew has 20 mg of CBD to give you a “calm sense of well-being.” Plus, the packaging is so amazing, you’ll want to save the box after eat all the goods (and trust us, they’ll go fast!) If chocolate isn’t your thing, Lord Jones has a variety of fruity CBD-infused gumdrops as well.
When you’re looking to recover…
With CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties, it does wonders for pain relief. Whether you’re recovering from a work out, you slept funny last night or it’s that time of the month…CBD can help with all of it.
Something you can use during your practice or to recover after — the Be Calm patch is ideal for minor aches and pains as well as muscle soreness. Although you apply it to one area, you’ll still receive an all over effect. Plus, one patch can be worn up to 24 hours so it’s a good long-lasting option if you never want the CBD benefits to end (well it will…but at least you’ll get a full day of it!)
There’s nothing better than a nice bath after a long day. Now with CBD bath products, getting in the tub has never been more relaxing. To ease pain, relax the mind and even get glowing skin, try the Life Elements CBD Bath Bombs. These CBD baths will be your new favorite post-yoga-treat-yourself activity.
If there’s a certain area like your shoulders or back that are particularly sore or painful, using CBD lotion is the way to go for a more targeted relief. To get the great CBD benefits plus a cooling effect from essential oils like Eucalyptus and Peppermint, give Dr. Kerklaan’s Natural CBD Pain Cream a try. A little goes a long way with CBD creams so although the price tag may seem scary, one tube should last you quite a while.
It’s pretty amazing how many ways you can use CBD and how it can benefit us everyday. Whether you use it for sleep, anxiety or to enhance your yoga practice…it’s a powerful extract we love so much that we couldn’t help but spread the love. We hope you feel inspired to take your yoga practice to another level with some of these CBD products. And if you find yourself at The Space Between and don’t have any CBD on hand, we carry Superhue – a functional CBD beverage – that’s a perfect sipper before, during or after class.
